Learning about the First Thanksgiving

I'm so excited to head home to Oregon and the kids can't wait to see Grandma and Grandpa Wilson and Aunt Heather. As we walk in we are greeted with warmth, both from the hearth and hearts. Coming "Home" is always a heart-warming time.

A couple nights ago during dinner Steve asked a simple question, "Where did the Pilgrims first land?" I told Steve that I have a book that would tell us. So I put my fork down, got the book and found basically the chapter we might get our answer from. The kids were a bit restless, especially Tori and she said one of the forbidden words in our house "Boring". I reminded her about the forbidden word, gave her a consequence and then I started to read. About 2 pages into it Steve said, "Can you just tell me where they landed so I can point it out on the place mat map". "Oh", I said, " I thought you wanted to do some family reading". So we found the pilgrims landed in Cape Cod and I shut the book. Then Tori piped up, "Keep going Mom". I looked at Steve and he gave the go ahead. So I continued reading another 3 or 4 pages. We came to when the Pilgrims were having the feast with the Indians and ended our time there (because our "Indians" were getting restless). If the first time didn't surprise me enough, Tori again wanted to read more. So a few family members got down from the table and I continued reading another chapter. I just loved the change of heart from my "little" Tori. As a child myself, I thought History was "boring" and I don't want to pass that along to my kids. Hopefully this is a good sign.

Happy Thanksgiving!! What book were you reading out of? That sounded like a great idea!

The book is called, "The LIGHT and the GLORY For Children" by Peter Marshall and David Manuel. I found it in our church's library.

Have a Blessed Thanksgiving yourself. Can't wait to hear the "announcement"!
